Results are in for the first poll in a series of weekly polls. Close to 50% of those who responded wrote that they keep their phone in their front left pocket. This was surprising considering only 10% of Americans are left-handed. Personally, I keep my phone in my front right pocket because I am right-handed and reach for my HTC Incredible much more often than I do my wallet and keys in the course of a day (much to the disappointment of the gf). For the girls reading this, you should know, most guys, before heading out the door, check their pockets for those three things: phone, wallet and keys.
So, am I to believe that my blog attracts that many south paws? If you are right-handed and keep your phone in your left front pocket, sound off in the comments as to why.
For more information and interesting facts about left-handedness, check out the Wikipedia write-up.

I think the reason you'd keep it in your front left as a righty is similar to why you would most probably wear a watch on your left hand as a righty. It's more out of the way. You are accustomed to using your right side more, so things on the left are just less obtrusive. In addition, I use my right side more, so things I keep on my right side end up getting broken more often, things on my left are out of harms way.
the second point is a good one...but for something that i reach for so often during the day, it seems awkward to pull it out with my left (read weak) hand.
A couple points, reconduct the poll and ask if people are righty or lefty. Find out if people are keeping something else in the other pocket. It could be a security issue. People may want their wallet in the right pocket even if they use it less often. People may feel that their dominant side will be more aware, and keep their money safer.
thats a good point. i had a hard enough time getting the 17 votes for the first poll, gonna be tough to redo with the same people - since i dont know who voted.
I guess you're not supposed to know who voted. I know in general lefties are about 1/10 of the pop., but with a small group, it could be a totally dif. ratio.
Can u really make any decisive call on this? I mean I do front right pocket for cell phone and misc(ie mints or something) and front left for wallet and keys. But I don't remember making a conscious decision to do that. I just did it. and now its habit. It's a question that I don't think leads to any specific answer or generalization. Really you should this blog for more important topics. Otherwise its a waste of the best medium of communication in this day and age.
nope. i dont think I can and didnt. Part of the problem was a small sample size. But you may think you didnt make a conscious decision, but other people did. Plus, if people did not realize before that there may be a better way, it may cause people to change their habits, and that would be great.
I think that a lot of things that we do are based on habit, but you have to realize that there is an underlying reason for doing something. It may have just come naturally to you, but there's a reason it did. At some point in time you put the phone in your right pocket (probably the first day you got it) and never looked back. But if you had put it in your right pocket and it was uncomfortable you would have switched it to the other side, or maybe someplace else. I think that this blog may be more of a Tech psychology blog, and a place for people to discuss why they do thinks, or what they may choose to do with technology, as opposed to a very technical technology blog.
